Start a gouge angled to the workpiece
-
Before firing the torch, hold the torch at approximately a 40° – 45° angle to
the workpiece with the torch tip approximately 6 mm – 12 mm (1/4 in. – 1/2 in.)
from the workpiece.
1 40° – 45° angle 2 6 mm – 12 mm (1/4 in. – 1/2 in.) - Pull the trigger to get a pilot arc and transfer the arc to the workpiece.
-
Stretch the arc to 25 mm
–
32 mm (1 inch – 1-1/4 inches).
-
Keep this position as you push the plasma arc in the direction of the gouge
that you want to create.
-
Change the position of the torch as necessary to get the gouge contour that you
want.
Note:
Refer to Guidelines for hand torch gouging. Keep at least a small distance between the torch tip and the molten metal to increase cartridge life and prevent damage to the torch.
